Water Softening

Water softening equipment is installed before a reverse osmosis system to make it run faster and more efficiently and therefore reduce running costs. Softeners can be a good investment in very hard water areas (TDS 350+) but it should be noted that softeners on their own (although often similar in appearance to deionisation filters) do not purify water they simply 'soften' it by exchanging 'hardness' minerals in the water for sodium.
